Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Physiatry is the speciality whose main purpose is to restore lost functions to the patient (motor, respiratory, language, speech, etc.). It uses different re-education and analgesia techniques and privileges physical agents as therapeutic means.
The IPO-Porto Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service seeks to reduce impairment and disability, achieve better performance, help the patient reaching the maximum independence potential in his/her daily activities and improve the quality of life, optimizing the remaining capacities and compensating the lost ones.
Its operation occurs at several levels:
– Prevention, diagnosis and evaluation of the impairments, disabilities and disadvantages;
– Recovery of personal autonomy according to the functional recovery and the use of technical aids.
